How much does an Experience Day cost?

The cost of a Classroom Adventures Experience Day can vary greatly depending on which experience day you want, how many children is it for and where it is being held. For a free, no obligation quote then please contact us through our enquiry form here.

We use the Hall for various things, how will that affect the day?

For our Toy Making Experience Day we only need the hall from 08:45 – 09:45 so this is often unaffected by other uses of the hall.

For History Experience Days, however, full use of the hall is required for the entire day (approx. 07:30 – 16:30) and so a date should be selected that permits this. Once set up we will not be able to move until the end of the day. Please also make sure that there are no before, lunch or after school clubs in the hall on the requested dates for your experience day.

Our school has a very small car park (or doesn’t have one at all). Is that a problem?

We require parking on site to deliver an experience day to your school. Some schools permit parking on the playground if parking spaces are limited. Please let us know if this is the case when booking.

What can we expect in the day?

This depends on which experience day you book, but we love to get the children to participate as much as possible no matter what the day.

For further information about a specific experience day then please get in touch via our contact page.

Do you have any SEN provisions?

If we are visiting a mainstream or private school then we will need to provide content and materials to the average level of the group. If there is one/several child(ren) that have special educational needs it is down to the school to provide them with the support that they need. We send an “info about the day” sheet in advance of the day and we advise that this be passed on to any 1:1’s that will be helping on that day. Whilst it is not possible for us to alter the content of our experience day for the needs of a single child we always try to take children’s needs into account as we are running through the day.

If your school specifically caters for SEND then please let us know when making an enquiry so that we can discuss the needs of your pupils/organisation

Toy Making
Can the children choose their own toy?

The reason that our Toy Making Experience Days are so popular is because of the large range of toys that the children get to make. To give children a choice would add a phenomenal amount of time onto the day and mean that we would have to carry 1,000’s toys around with us to ensure fair choice.

Also some toys take longer than others to assemble and we have factored that in to keep the workshop to 2hrs (for 30 pupils).

Because of this our policy is to not provide children with a choice and we manage this in our days. Even if children don’t get the toy that they were hoping for initially, we have found that by the end of the workshop all the children will love their toy because it is theirs and they have made it.

Can the teacher choose which toy the children make?

Also some toys take longer than others to assemble and we have factored that in to keep the workshop to 2hrs (for 30 pupils).

It is our policy not to generally give teachers a choice as to which children get to make each toy.

We often find that children with additional needs surprise the teachers (and themselves) with what they can achieve on our toy making days.

Do you need to come into our school for more than one day?

It takes approximately 2 hours for a class of thirty children to each make a toy.

If your school has one or two classes in the year group then we will be able to make the toys with the children on one day. If your school has three or four classes in the year group then we will need to make the toys over two days.

What are the Toy Museum and Handling collections?

Our Toy Museum is a collection of old toys that can be shown to the children to give them an idea about the type of toys children would have played with in the past. We provide information about the toys in both written and video formats.

A lot of the toys in the Toy Museum are very old, fragile, and not replaceable. For this reason, we do not allow children to touch the toys in the museum.

We know that children love to play with toys. Our Toy Handling collection is a selection of more robust and replica toys that the children can get hands on with. We have split the toys into various ‘stations’ that the children can try out.

Although not essential it can be useful to have the use of the hall for the Toy Handling.

What should I expect from a toy making day?

The day starts with an interactive presentation where the children are introduced to the toys that they will be making and will learn the History & Geography of the Toys and the Science behind how they work.

This presentation is for all classes that will be taking part in the day (or days) and lasts for approximately 30 minutes. Usually this presentation is run in the hall, especially in schools with more than one class per year group.

After the initial presentation the class (or first class, if more than one class is in the year group) will move to a classroom for the toy making workshop. It takes approximately 2 hours for a class of thirty children to each make a toy.

After lunch the second class (if there is one) will each make their toy.

Do you need use of the hall?

We like to run the initial presentation about the toys in a hall. This usually runs from approximately 9:00 until 9:30.

We do not need to use the hall for the toy making workshops as we run this in a classroom.

If you book the Toy Museum and Handling then it is useful to have use of the hall for the running of the Toy Handling Collection.

How many adult helpers do you need for the day?

We are able to run the day with just our workshop facilitator and the teacher. However, the more adult helpers you have available the more smoothly the day will run and the better the experience for the children. If you are able to get help from a Teaching Assistant or a parent helper then that is great!

Children who require 1:1 assistance will need their assistant to be present for the duration of the workshop.

History

Do you need use of the hall?

Yes! In order to run one of our interactive History days we will need to use the hall for the duration of the day. We often have a large amount of props which can take up to an hour to set up and take down. We are not able to pack these away or move them during the day.

If your school uses the hall for lunch or has any breakfast clubs and after school clubs then this can impact the amount of delivery time for the day.

Ideally you would choose a day where no clubs are running for your experience day.

If you are unsure as to if we would be able to run a day in your particular circumstances, then please send us a message and we will do our best to help you.

What should I expect from a History day?

Each period of History that we cover runs in a slightly different way.

We want to make our days as immersive and engaging as possible so no matter what the day we will use a combination of interactive storytelling, activities, role play and games to get the children really involved. We like to get the children up and moving around as this helps them really feel part of the day.

How many adult helpers do you need for the day?

We are able to run the day with just our workshop facilitator and the teacher. If you are able to get help from a Teaching Assistant or a parent helper then that is great!

What should the children wear?

We do not have a specific dress code for our History days and so it is fine for children to wear their school uniform, or usual school clothing.

However, we love it when children (and adult helpers) dress up for the day. It really helps everyone get into the spirit of the day, plus it is great fun.

If you are not sure what costumes would be suitable for your chosen period then please get in touch and we will be pleased to offer some advice.

I’m interested in a topic not listed on your website, can you help?

Possibly. We are constantly evolving and adding to our offer and love to hear what teachers think our next experience day should be.

Please get in touch and we will be glad to assist you where possible.

Dance
Do you need use of the hall?

Yes! In order to run our interactive dance experience days we will need to use the hall.

Depending on which dance day we are running for you then in most cases any props can be easily moved to the side of the hall if the hall is used for lunch.

If we are running a Maypole dance day for you then please note that our Maypole is approximately 3.6m tall and so the hall will need to be able to accommodate this.

If you are unsure as to if we would be able to run a day in your particular circumstances then please send us a message and we will do our best to help you.

What should I expect from a dance day?

Our dance days can be fairly flexible depending on the needs of your organisation.

In most cases we work with one class at a time and if more than one class is involved we will rotate all the classes.

The length of sessions will vary depending on the number of classes joining in on the day. However, we have found that we need at least 45 minutes for each class in order to make a dance workshop worthwhile.

How many adult helpers do you need for the day?

We are able to run the day with just our workshop facilitator and the teacher. However, the more adult helpers you have available the more smoothly the day will run and the better the experience for the children. What should the children wear?

We do not have a specific dress code for our Dance days and so it is fine for children to wear their school uniform, or usual school clothing.

However, it can be useful for children to change from their school shoes into trainers or sports shoes to make them less likely to slip when dancing.

Some schools have opted for children to wear PE kit or sports clothes for the session and this is also fine.
